2 Chinese nationals captured fighting for Russia in Ukraine – Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian forces have captured two Chinese nationals who were fighting alongside Russian troops in the eastern Donetsk region.
The engagement reportedly occurred near the villages of Tarasivka and Bilohorivka, where Ukrainian troops encountered six Chinese individuals within Russian military ranks. Zelenskyy indicated that these two captives might represent a larger contingent of Chinese nationals involved in the conflict.
In response, Zelenskyy has directed Ukraine’s Foreign Minister to seek immediate clarification from Beijing regarding the presence of its citizens in Russian military units. The Chinese government has yet to comment on these developments.

While the exact nature of these individuals’ involvement—whether as state-sponsored troops or independent mercenaries—remains uncertain, Western officials currently have no evidence of official Chinese government sponsorship.
This incident raises concerns about the international dimensions of the ongoing conflict and the potential involvement of foreign nationals in the hostilities.
