China slams US tariffs as ‘bullying’, urges continued talks

China sharply criticized the United States on Monday, describing President Donald Trump’s proposed “reciprocal tariffs” as a form of economic coercion and warning that threats and pressure are not the appropriate way to resolve trade tensions.
Speaking at a regular press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian denounced the U.S. move as “typical unilateralism and protectionism,” asserting that the tariffs are a clear example of “economic bullying.”
“Threats and pressure are not the right way to deal with China,” Lin said. “Tariffs imposed under the pretext of reciprocity only serve the interests of the United States while harming the interests of other countries.”

The comments come as Beijing seeks to rally international support against what it sees as unfair trade practices by Washington, urging nations to maintain dialogue and cooperation rather than resort to unilateral measures.
China has repeatedly voiced its opposition to tariffs and warned of potential retaliatory actions, calling for the global community to uphold multilateral trade rules and avoid escalating tensions.
