Amaechi blames Wike-Fubara conflict on financial disputes, condemns emergency rule

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that the ongoing feud between suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is driven by financial disagreements.
In an interview with DW on Saturday, Amaechi asserted that the root cause of the crisis lies in disputes over money allocation, rather than governance or political ideology.
He suggested that power struggles in Rivers State are often fueled by financial interests, leading to recurring tensions.

Amaechi also strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s imposition of emergency rule in Rivers State, calling it unconstitutional. He argued that such a move undermines democratic governance and could set a dangerous precedent for handling political crises in the country.
“The fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money. If not, what is the quarrel? Nigerians don’t dislike corruption again. I’ve not seen anybody on the street querying what the problem is. Can both of them speak to the public and tell us what the problem is about?” Amaechi stated.
