Senegal’s Faye faces mixed reviews after first year

One year after his historic election, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye faces a mixed record, with both criticism and praise shaping his first year in office.
Faye, along with his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, came to power on promises of economic reform, a crackdown on corruption, and achieving food sovereignty. Supporters argue that his administration has laid the groundwork for long-term change, expressing confidence in his vision.
However, critics claim the government has lacked ambition, failing to implement bold policies to address economic and social challenges.

Despite high expectations, Faye’s administration has struggled with sluggish economic growth and external pressures. While some reforms have been initiated, opposition voices warn that tangible progress remains limited.
As his presidency enters its second year, Faye faces mounting pressure to deliver on his pledges and prove that his leadership can bring lasting transformation to Senegal.
