Notorious bandit leader Shekau killed in rival gang ambush in Kaduna

A notorious bandit leader known as Shekau, infamous for terrorizing communities around the Narewo River in Kachia Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, has been killed in an ambush by a rival gang.
According to intelligence sources, the attack was orchestrated by another feared bandit leader, Shumo, a native of Ragadada, Buruku in Birnin Gwari LGA.
Security analyst Zagozola Makama reported that Shumo launched the assault to avenge a previous attack by Shekau, who had allegedly killed some of his men and seized their weapons.

The ambush, which occurred on March 5, 2025, resulted in Shekau’s death along with several of his close allies.
Sources revealed that the bodies of the fallen bandits were buried by individuals identified as Yellow Million, Baba Kusa, and an imam from Kabode village in Kachia LGA.
Although bandit activities in Kaduna have declined due to the non-kinetic strategies of the state government and security forces, ongoing conflicts between rival factions continue to cause significant casualties.
