NECO acquires high-performance OMR scanner to enhance exam credibility

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has taken a significant step towards improving the efficiency and security of its examinations with the acquisition of a high-performance Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) scanner.

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly installed machine at the ICT Department in Minna, NECO Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, emphasized that the move aligns with the Council’s commitment to enhancing accuracy, speed, and reliability in the examination process.

He disclosed that the newly installed scanning machine, Scantron Insight 1500c, is renowned for its precision, speed, and ability to handle large volumes of scripts efficiently. This cutting-edge technology boasts an impressive capacity to scan over 15,000 OMR sheets per hour and 250 per minute.

The scanning machine, which cost approximately N500 million, has the capability to simultaneously scan and score OMR sheets, further streamlining the examination process. Prof. Wushishi emphasized that this acquisition demonstrates NECO’s commitment to leveraging technology in all its examination processes.

This development is expected to significantly improve the overall efficiency and credibility of NECO’s examinations, providing a better experience for candidates and stakeholders alike.
