Meet Comrade Grace Ike: The trailblazing leader transforming NUJ FCT

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has entered a new era under the leadership of Comrade Grace Ike, the first female chairman in the council’s history.
Elected unopposed on December 4, 2024, her leadership has already sparked a wave of transformation, unity, and professionalism.
At the maiden monthly congress on January 25, 2025, held at the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Utako, the overwhelming attendance of over 400 journalists, including past and present leaders, was a testament to the renewed energy within the council.
Members gathered in solidarity, eager to witness a fresh leadership approach that prioritizes respect, transparency, and progress.
A new style of leadership
Comrade Grace Ike’s leadership stands in stark contrast to past administrations. Unlike the authoritative styles of some predecessors, she has embraced an inclusive and respectful approach.
Her ability to listen, engage, and encourage meaningful contributions from members has set a new standard.
During her campaign, Ike emphasized key areas such as improved welfare, transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

Just weeks into her tenure, she has already begun delivering on these promises. Her generosity and commitment to members’ well-being are evident, reinforcing why she was the unanimous choice for leadership.

Repositioning NUJ FCT for greater heights
Despite the previous administration’s failure to account for its six-year stewardship, Ike has wasted no time in moving the council forward.
Her administration has swiftly taken steps to reposition the NUJ FCT as a leading journalists’ council in Nigeria. A visit to the secretariat already reflects the changes taking place under her leadership.
At the congress, she encouraged members to embrace unity and collaboration, reminding everyone that the election is over and it is time to work together for the common good.
Her open-door policy and willingness to listen to feedback further highlight her commitment to inclusive governance.
Leadership expectations
Comrade Grace Ike’s leadership is a breath of fresh air for NUJ FCT. She has set a lofty standard, proving that true leadership is about service, humility, and dedication to collective progress.
While resistance to change is inevitable, she remains focused on her vision, one that places the council and its members at the forefront of journalism excellence in Nigeria.

With a determined team by her side and overwhelming support from members, Ike is not just making history, she is shaping the future of NUJ FCT. The “Grace Ike factor” is real, and it is here to stay.
