The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has reaffirmed its commitment to curbing illegal oil activities in the Niger Delta, announcing a series of successful operations that thwarted renewed attempts by criminals to re-establish oil bunkering sites in the region.

Between August 11 and 24, 2025, troops of the 6 Division, working in collaboration with other security agencies, recorded significant breakthroughs. These included the deactivation of nine illegal refining sites, the arrest of 69 suspected oil thieves, and the confiscation of more than 32,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.

In a statement, the division’s spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, revealed that the operations were carried out across Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and other parts of the oil-rich Niger Delta.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Eric Emekah, commended the troops for their relentless efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s resources. He stressed that the army remains determined to ensure the Niger Delta is a no-go area for economic saboteurs.
