Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, has expressed confidence in his squad’s preparedness as Nigeria gears up for their opening match at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The nine-time champions will kick off their Group B campaign against Tunisia on Sunday at 5pm in Casablanca, Morocco.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Madugu emphasized the team’s focus and determination, stating that the players are united in their mission to secure a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

“We are fully focused and motivated,” Madugu said. “The team is in high spirits, and we believe we can begin the tournament on a strong note. Our goal is clear, and we are confident it is within reach.”

The Super Falcons head into the tournament in impressive form, having registered morale-boosting victories in warm-up matches against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses and Ghana’s Black Queens, along with a hard-fought goalless draw against Portugal. They have lost just once in their last five matches, signaling strong momentum ahead of the continental showdown.

Nigeria, the most successful team in WAFCON history, will look to build on their legacy and assert their dominance once again, starting with a crucial opening victory against Tunisia.
