3 Kebbi Senators dump PDP for APC after meeting with Tinubu

In a fresh wave of political realignment, three senators from Kebbi State elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decision came shortly after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.

The defection underscores growing momentum within the APC, as the ruling party continues to draw in key opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting was also reportedly attended by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje; Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State; Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State; and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu.

The senators said to be defecting are Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South).

Friday’s discussion, which was facilitated by Ganduje, is seen as part of the ongoing trend of defections across party lines, particularly in favor of the APC.
