Eid-el-Fitr : Sultan of Sokoto declares Sunday as celebration day

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has officially declared Sunday as Eid-el-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the Ramadan fast for 2025.
The announcement was made by the President-General of NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, during a live broadcast on Saturday night.
According to the Sultan, the sighting of the new moon signifies the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal, bringing the holy month of Ramadan to an end.
The confirmation of the moon sighting aligns with Islamic traditions, signaling the time for Muslims across Nigeria to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.

Eid-el-Fitr, also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar. It marks the completion of a month-long period of fasting, devotion, and spiritual reflection.
During this period, Muslims come together for communal prayers, visit loved ones, and extend support to the less privileged through Zakat al-Fitr, a form of charitable giving.
