Saudi Arabia confirms Eid al-Fitr date as crescent moon of Shawwal is sighted

Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

According to an update from Haramain’s official Facebook page, Eid al-Fitr will be observed on Sunday, March 30, 2025. The sighting of the crescent moon signifies the conclusion of the holy month of fasting and the commencement of festivities across the Muslim world.

Muslims in Saudi Arabia and other regions that follow the kingdom’s moon sighting will gather for special prayers, feasts, and charitable acts to celebrate the occasion.

“The crescent moon for the month of Shawwal 1446 was sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025,” the statement read.

Eid al-Fitr marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to dusk. The holiday is traditionally celebrated with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.
