Kwankwaso officially joins ADC

Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and ex-governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress, signaling a major shift in Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
Kwankwaso completed his registration and received his membership card on Monday at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, located along Miller Road in Bompai, Kano. This development comes shortly after he announced his resignation from the NNPP.
The event drew prominent political figures, including ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark; former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; Senator Dino Melaye; and former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.
The former governor had, on Sunday, formally resigned from the NNPP, citing the need for political realignment in the country.

“As a committed and bona fide member of the party, this was not an easy decision to make. However, considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” Kwankwaso said in his statement.
He expressed appreciation to the NNPP leadership, particularly its National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, as well as members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their support and loyalty over the years.
Kwankwaso added that he remains committed to working with political allies toward building a more prosperous Nigeria.
His defection is widely seen as part of a broader coalition-building effort among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
