FCT Police redeploy DPOs ahead of Area Council elections

The FCT Police Command has redeployed and reshuffled Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the Federal Capital Territory as part of preparations for the Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, carried out the redeployment following a directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. The move, according to the command, is aimed at strengthening security arrangements and ensuring professionalism before, during, and after the elections.
Dantawaye urged the affected officers to carry out their duties with fairness, dedication, and impartiality. He stressed the police command’s commitment to protecting voters, electoral officials, and election materials to guarantee a peaceful and credible process.

The command also reminded residents that there will be a restriction of movement across the FCT from 8:00 p.m. on February 20 to 6:00 p.m. on election day, except for essential service providers and accredited election officials.
Residents were advised to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines. The announcement was communicated by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh.
Authorities expressed confidence that with proper security measures and public cooperation, the Area Council elections would be conducted peacefully and successfully.
