FCT Police announce movement restriction ahead of Area Council elections

The FCT Police Command has announced a restriction of movement across the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the Area Council elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, said movement will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day. The order will apply to all residents, except essential service providers and accredited election officials.

According to the police command, the restriction is aimed at ensuring a safe, peaceful, and credible electoral process across the FCT. Residents were urged to remain calm, obey security guidelines, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the exercise.

The police also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious movements or activities through the command’s emergency lines. The announcement was conveyed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, on behalf of the command.

Authorities expressed confidence that with public cooperation, the Area Council elections would be conducted peacefully and successfully.
