Rivers Senator, Barinada Mpigi, passes away

Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Barinada Mpigi, who passed away at the age of 64.
Sources confirmed that the lawmaker died on Thursday, bringing an end to his years of service in Nigeria’s National Assembly.
Born on June 23, 1961, Senator Mpigi represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the Senate until his death. He was first elected into the upper legislative chamber in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Before his election to the Senate, Mr Mpigi served in the House of Representatives. He was first elected in 2011 and secured a second term in 2016.

During the Ninth Assembly, he chaired a joint Senate committee established to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region. He also served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.
