Breaking…INEC unveils timetable for 2027 general elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially unveiled the timetable and schedule for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made on Friday during a press conference in Abuja, where the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, addressed journalists and cleared the air on earlier reports.
Amupitan dismissed claims that the electoral body had previously released the timetable, describing such reports as inaccurate. He explained that the official announcement was made in full compliance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act.

According to the commission, the presidential election will take place on February 20, 2027. Meanwhile, governorship, senatorial, and other elections are scheduled to be held on March 6, 2027.
The release of the timetable provides clarity for political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 polls. It also gives voters enough time to prepare, update their voter registration where necessary, and actively participate in the democratic process.
