Super Eagles soar into AFCON semi-finals with convincing win over Algeria

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following an impressive 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
Nigeria delivered a disciplined and high-energy performance in the quarter-final clash, asserting control from the early stages and keeping their opponents under constant pressure. The Super Eagles’ dominance eventually paid off as they found the back of the net through Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.
Osimhen broke the deadlock in the first half, capitalising on sustained pressure from the Eagles to put Nigeria ahead and unsettle the Algerian defence. The Napoli striker’s goal gave Nigeria confidence and control as they dictated the tempo of the game.
Algeria pushed forward in search of an equaliser after the break, but the Super Eagles remained compact at the back. Their resistance was rewarded late in the game when Akor Adams sealed the win with a well-taken goal, effectively ending Algeria’s hopes of a comeback.

The victory extends Nigeria’s impressive run at the tournament and keeps alive the nation’s quest for a fourth AFCON title.
The Super Eagles will now await the outcome of the remaining quarter-final fixtures to know their semi-final opponent.
