Algerian Boxer Imane Khelif eyes 2028 Olympics amid gender-eligibility debate

Algerian boxing champion Imane Khelif has expressed her determination to defend her Olympic gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, despite ongoing gender-eligibility controversies and criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Khelif, who won gold at the Paris Olympics, was previously disqualified from the 2023 World Championships after failing to meet the International Boxing Association’s gender regulations.

The controversy surrounding her participation intensified last month when Trump signed an executive order banning transgender women from competing in female sports in the U.S., referring to Khelif as a male boxer during his speech.
With the International Olympic Committee’s recent recommendation to include boxing in the 2028 Games, Khelif remains focused on her goal of competing in Los Angeles and retaining her title.
