2027: Bauchi gov orders appointees eyeing elective positions to resign

The Bauchi State Government has instructed all political appointees planning to contest in upcoming party primaries to step down by Friday, April 24, 2026, if they haven’t already. This directive aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), which requires officeholders to resign before participating in elections.
The announcement came in a statement on Wednesday from Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
Gidado explained, “This directive is in line with statutory requirements governing the participation of public office holders in electoral processes and is aimed at ensuring full compliance with the law.”

He also expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their service and contributions to the development of Bauchi State, while wishing them success in their future endeavours.
Gidado further stated, “All such appointees are further directed to hand over all government property in their possession, as well as the responsibilities of their offices, to the appropriate officer within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).”
