Nigerian Navy Chief of operations Musa Katagum dies after illness

The Nigerian military community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, Chief of Operations of the Nigerian Navy.

Katagum, who previously served as Chief of Naval Intelligence, reportedly died after a prolonged illness, according to the Director of Naval Information, Abiodun Folorunsho.

Folorunsho described the late rear admiral as a committed and professional officer whose career was defined by dedication to duty and service to the nation. Colleagues and associates have also begun paying tributes, remembering him as a respected leader within the naval ranks.

“Throughout his distinguished service in the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Katagum demonstrated exemplary leadership, strategic insight and unwavering loyalty to the ideals and mission of the Nigerian Navy. His legacy will remain a source of inspiration to all personnel across the services.

“The Nigerian Navy extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and associates during this difficult time. Rear Admiral Katagum passed away following a protracted illness and has since been buried according to Islamic rites. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

Katagum was widely regarded as a respected senior officer who contributed significantly to the navy’s recent operational successes.
