Profile of Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, Kaduna North lawmaker

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai is one of the young voices in Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly, representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives of Nigeria.
Since assuming office on 11 June 2023, the lawmaker has positioned himself within key financial oversight conversations as Chairman of the House Committee on Banking Regulations.
Birth
Born on January 11, 1988, in Kaduna State, Bello grew up in a politically active family.
He is the first son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai and writer and public figure Hadiza Isma El-Rufai.
His upbringing exposed him early to governance, public policy debates and leadership responsibilities.
Academic journey
For his education, Bello attended the British School of Lomé before moving to the United States for higher studies.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and International Relations, with a minor in Religious Studies, from Wheaton College.
He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University in 2015, strengthening his background in communication and policy engagement.
Career journey
Bello’s early professional career was outside elective politics. He worked as a manager at Huawei Nigeria, gaining private sector experience before fully stepping into public service.
His political involvement began during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year in 2015.
At the time, he engaged with the Good Governance Group (3G) and co-founded the Rescue Kaduna Group (RKG), a political action committee formed ahead of the 2015 general elections.

He also served as Director of Youth Mobilisation for the Buhari Campaign Organization, playing a role in grassroots political organising.
Politics
Between 2019 and 2022, Bello worked closely with Uba Sani, who was then a senator and is now the Governor of Kaduna State.
He served as Senior Legislative Aide and later Chief of Staff, gaining experience in legislative processes and constituency engagement at the National Assembly.
In February 2023, Bello formally contested for elective office under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He won the Kaduna North Federal Constituency seat with 51,052 votes, succeeding Samaila Suleiman. His emergence marked his transition from political aide to elected federal lawmaker.

Philanthropy
Beyond politics, Bello is involved in philanthropic and social initiatives.
He serves as a board member of the Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation (YELF) and is also associated with the Hamza El-Rufai Foundation (HELF), organisations focused on social development and youth-focused causes.
Family
Married to Aisha, daughter of Colonel Habibu Shuaibu, a former military administrator of Plateau and Niger States, Bello combines public service, private sector experience and family political heritage as he continues his legislative career in Abuja.
Net worth
Bello El-Rufai’s net wealth is estimated to be around $2 million, earned from his political career and other enterprenural ventures.
