Many soldiers reportedly killed as ISWAP militants attack military base in Borno

Several Nigerian soldiers have reportedly lost their lives following a deadly assault by militants linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Jakana, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to security sources, the insurgents launched the attack in the early hours of Friday, storming the community and firing indiscriminately before directing their assault toward the military facility.
Witnesses said the attackers arrived in large numbers, creating panic among residents as gunshots echoed across the area. The militants were also said to have used explosives in their attempt to breach the base, leading to intense fighting between troops and the insurgents.
The terrorists were said to have arrived in multiple groups, making it difficult to count them. The sources added that many Nigerian soldiers were killed while others fled into the bush.
“An attack occurred this morning, 06/02/2025, at an Army outpost along Maiduguri/Damaturu Road, Jakana town, by Boko Haram terrorists, with many casualties recorded on our side.

“Their corpses have been transferred to the 7 Div military hospital in Maiduguri,” a top source said.
During the attack, the gunmen burned armoured tanks and military vehicles and made away with unquantifiable ammunition, the source added.
This comes just days after another attack in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area of the state, in which several soldiers were killed.
A few days prior, seven military personnel, including a newly promoted lieutenant colonel, were killed in an ambush by the terrorists.
