Suspected bandits kill 6 farmers in fresh attack on Niger community

At least six farmers have reportedly been killed following a late-night attack by suspected armed bandits in Unguwar Wawa community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident, which occurred on Friday night, has left residents in shock and renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity facing rural communities in the region.
News of the attack was shared on Saturday by conflict and crisis journalist Bakatsine in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he detailed the deadly assault on the farming community.
According to the report, the assailants stormed the community at approximately 10:00 p.m. and opened fire on farmers who were working on their farmlands.

Following the attack, the bandits fled the scene, leaving residents in a state of fear and grief.
The incident has intensified concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the area, particularly for rural farming communities, which have increasingly become targets of violent attacks.
Residents are calling for urgent action from security agencies to ensure the safety of vulnerable populations in remote areas.
Authorities and relevant security agencies have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
