Super Eagles beat Egypt in penalty shootout to seal 2025 AFCON third place

Nigeria’s Super Eagles capped off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a high note, securing third place with a dramatic penalty shootout win over Egypt’s Pharaohs on Saturday.
The bronze medal clash proved to be a tightly contested affair, with both sides battling hard and finishing level at full time. It was in the nerve-wracking penalty shootout that Nigeria’s composure shone through, allowing the Super Eagles to edge past their North African rivals and claim a podium finish.
The result ensured the Super Eagles finished the tournament on a positive note after narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

Nigeria had earlier been eliminated in the semi-finals but responded with resilience and focus against an experienced Egyptian side, who are the most successful nation in AFCON history.
