Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), in collaboration with local vigilante groups, have killed Kachalla Isihu Buzu, a notorious bandit leader linked to numerous violent attacks in Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

Security sources revealed that Buzu had long been a key figure behind repeated raids on communities in the area, during which residents were killed or abducted. Victims were often released only after hefty ransoms were paid, leaving many families traumatized.

A security analyst and journalist, Bakatsine, confirmed the development in a report shared on Saturday with a picture depicting the slain bandit kingpin was beheaded.

According to him, the operation shows how community-based security groups continue to help in the fight against banditry, especially in areas where security forces are overstretched.

Zamfara State has for many years suffered from attacks by armed bandits who operate from forests. These criminals often invade communities, burn houses, steal livestock, and abduct men, women, and children for ransom. Many residents have been forced to flee their homes because of fear.

Due to the frequent attacks, local communities formed vigilante groups and the CJTF to support the military and police by providing local knowledge and early warnings about bandit movements.

Although there are ongoing discussions about how these groups should be properly regulated and supervised by the government, many residents say their efforts have helped reduce attacks in some areas.

As of the time of filing this report, official security agencies in the state had not yet issued a statement on the incident.
