Jane Osuji, a Nigerian public servant from Imo State, has made history as the first woman to be appointed national spokesperson of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
Her landmark elevation was confirmed in a statement signed by Ado Sale, the Deputy Controller-General in charge of Human Resources.
Background
Born in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, Mrs. Osuji, who hails from the Igbo ethnic group, has built her career on hard work, discipline and steady professional growth.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations and Advertising from Lagos State University and later earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

Her career in the service began in 2009 when she joined the then Nigerian Prisons Service as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons II.
Over the years, she has completed all mandatory professional courses for her rank and attended a number of specialised trainings, including the Internal Security and Low Intensity Conflict Operations Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.
This training further strengthened her capacity in handling public communication in sensitive security settings.

Mrs. Osuji has served across various formations, starting as assistant public relations officer in the Lagos State Command before becoming the public relations officer in the FCT Command.
Her impressive performance led to her deployment to the national headquarters as the assistant national PRO, where she worked under four controllers-general.
From 2015 to 2023, she also served as press secretary to three Ministers of Interior, further deepening her experience in government communication and public interface.
Personal life
Known for her professionalism, clear communication skills and calm approach to public engagement, Mrs. Osuji’s appointment is seen as a well-earned recognition of her dedication to the organisation.
She is a Christian and is happily married with children.
Appointment
Until her appointment as NCoS spokesperson, she was a key member of the public relations unit at the national headquarters in Abuja.
Her rise comes after the retirement of Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, who stepped down on November 19.
