Tension as students beat teacher to death in Oyo

A tragic incident has occurred in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where a school teacher, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, lost his life after being brutally attacked by students he cautioned against gambling during school hours.
The incident reportedly happened at Soun High School, Ogbomoso. According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Adegoke confronted a group of students who were allegedly gambling inside a classroom. Instead of complying, the enraged students turned violent.
Witnesses said the students descended on the teacher, beating him severely and causing serious injuries, including broken limbs. Mr. Adegoke later succumbed to the injuries sustained during the assault.
The teacher was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died from the injuries sustained in the assault.
The incident has sparked reactions from education stakeholders in the State as coalition of concerned educators described the attack as “a horrifying act and an assault on the entire teaching profession.”

“With deep pain and righteous indignation, we mourn the tragic and avoidable death of Mr. Fatai Adegoke, a dedicated teacher who was brutally attacked by his own students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours,” the coalition said in a statement.
It called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and security agencies to bring the culprits to brought, while also holding parents accountable for their children’s conduct.
They further lamented what they described as “moral decay” among students, warning that schools across the country were becoming unsafe for teachers.
Meanwhile, the students involved in the attack were said to be on the run.
