16-year-old JSS3 student allegedly kills teacher during dispute

Shock and sorrow have engulfed the community of Oju Local Government Area in Benue State after a disturbing incident involving a 16-year-old student allegedly resulted in the death of a schoolteacher.
The tragic event unfolded on Thursday at UBE Oju Centre, a secondary school in the heart of the community. The student, identified as Friday Ogamde, a Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) pupil, reportedly attacked his teacher during what witnesses describe as a heated altercation.
According to report by security analyst, Zagozola Makama, Ogamde confronted 35-year-old Mr. Oyibe Oyibe over a school cap that had been confiscated in May 2025.

Witnesses say the confrontation escalated quickly, turning physical. The student allegedly struck the teacher, causing him to collapse on the spot.
Mr. Oyibe was rushed to Amara Hospital in Oju, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel. His body has since been transferred to the General Hospital in Oju for an autopsy.
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of the suspect. The Benue State Police Command condemned the act, assuring the public that a thorough investigation is underway and justice will be served.
