The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified following the suspension of several senior officials by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Saturday.

Those suspended include the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, among other key figures.

Announcing the development during a press briefing, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, revealed that each of the affected officials has been placed on a 30-day suspension pending further investigations.

He said : “DECISION OF THE NWC AT ITS 608th MEETING HELD ON Saturday, November 1, 2025

“National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, National organizing Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, Suspended for one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee.

“During this period of the suspension, they cease to function in their respective capacities.

“In the case of the National Secretary, Pursuant to Section 36(2) of our Party Constitution as amended in 2017, the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo shall act as the National Secretary.

“In the case of the National Legal Adviser and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, the National Director of Legal Services is hereby directed to oversees the activities of the Department.”

According to the party, the decision was taken over allegations of anti-party activities and for conduct said to have brought the PDP into disrepute.

The latest action comes amid internal wrangling triggered by Friday’s Federal High Court ruling, which halted the party’s planned National Convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The development marks yet another setback for the opposition party, which has been grappling with leadership disputes and internal divisions in recent months.
