Meet Dantawaye Miller, FCT new Police Commissioner

CP Dantawaye Miller, a seasoned and highly decorated law enforcement officer, has been appointed as the 34th Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.

He succeeds CP Ajao Adewale, who has been redeployed for another strategic assignment.

Here’s a brief profile about the new FCT CP;

Early life

Born on October 15, 1971, in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Dantawaye Miller hails from a policing background as the son of the late Deputy Commissioner of Police Gajere Dantawaye.

Education

Dantawaye attended Government College, Katsina, and the Federal Government College, Enugu, before proceeding to Kaduna State Polytechnic, Zaria, where he obtained a Diploma in Business Administration.

He further earned a Bachelor of Science degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Career

Miller joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 2000 as part of Cadet ASP Course 20 and began his career in Bayelsa State in January 2002.

Over the past two decades, he has served in numerous sensitive and leadership capacities across Nigeria, earning a reputation for discipline, professionalism, and operational excellence.

He served as Divisional Crime Officer at ‘A’ Division, Yenagoa; Acting Aide-de-Camp to a former Governor of Bayelsa State; Escort Commander to a former Vice President of Nigeria; Chief Security Officer at the Ministry of Petroleum; and Commanding Officer of MOPOL 24 attached to the Presidential Villa.

He also served as Escort Commander to the then President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in the FCT Command, Area Commander in Karewa, Adamawa State, and Assistant Commissioner (CID) in Oyo State Command.

Miller later rose through the ranks to serve as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Yobe and Edo States, before becoming Commissioner of Police in charge of Information Technology at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Before his current posting to the FCT, he was the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command.

Professional bodies

CP Miller has attended several advanced local and international training programmes, including the Combat Operations and Counter-Terrorism Course in Gwoza, Maiduguri; Leadership Training at Shere Hills, Jos; VVIP Protection Course in Ginegal, Israel; and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos.

He is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and an active member of Rotary International, reflecting his commitment to community service and professional development.

Appointment

CP Dantawaye Miller officially assumed duty as the 34th Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command on October 17th, 2025, pledging to strengthen existing security frameworks and deepen community-police collaboration across the nation’s capital.

In a statement issued by SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, the Command urged residents to continue supporting the police in their collective effort to sustain peace and security throughout the territory.

The FCT Command remains one of the most strategic and sensitive police formations in Nigeria, responsible for safeguarding the seat of government, diplomatic missions, and key national assets.
