EFCC grills ex-NNPCL boss, Mele Kyari over refinery funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun questioning former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, at its headquarters in Abuja.
Kyari, who had earlier been placed on the agency’s watchlist, arrived at the EFCC office around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a report by Daily Trust.
Sources within the commission disclosed that the former NNPCL chief is being grilled over the funds allocated for the rehabilitation of Nigeria’s ailing refineries during his time in office.

“Yes, he’s in our office. He will be ushered into where he will face interrogation by the crack detectives of the commission,” a senior official of the EFCC confirmed.
It will be recalled that a Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier ordered a freeze on all bank accounts linked to Kyari at the request of the anti-graft agency.
