The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old lady found in possession of over ₦2 million, hard drugs, and a locally made pistol during a raid on a hotel in Okene.

Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday.

According to Aya, operatives from the Okene Division stormed the hotel after receiving credible intelligence that the facility was being used as a criminal hideout. During the operation, the young suspect was taken into custody with the incriminating items.

“During an intelligence led-raid operation, our operatives attached to Okene division of Nigeria Police Force arrested one Charity Williams, aged 23 years, recovered one locally made barretta pistol, the sum of N2,047,300, six rounds of 9mm live ammunition, hard drugs, axe, and four phones,” Aya said.

He explained that the room where the items were found had been booked by a man identified as  Kadiri, who is currently on the run.

“This is consequent on the intelligence tip off that a suspected criminal was sighted in  lodge alleged to be a suspected criminal hideout at Oguda, Okene. Immediately the police swung into action and raided the lodge. Upon searching one of the rooms which was booked by one Christopher Christopher Kadiri, a lady named Charity Williams aged 23 years was arrested and the above exhibits were recovered from the room,” the statement added.

Aya said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect while investigations continue.

In a separate operation, police operatives attached to Ofu Division recovered a locally made barrel gun, cutlass, and a mobile phone at Ogbakpedo village, a community notorious for kidnapping activities along the Itobe-Ayingba road.

“This is based on a tip off that some persons suspected to be kidnappers were sighted in the bush, immediately the patrol team moved to the scene, on sighting the police, they ran away. Search of the area led to the recovering of one locally made barrel gun, cutlass, techno phone among others,” Aya said.
