Sowore freed after police detention in Abuja

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, Omoyele Sowore, has regained his freedom after being detained by police authorities in Abuja.
Sowore was held at the Force Headquarters from Wednesday after he honored an invitation from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit.
He announced his release in a statement shared via Facebook, calling the detention “illegal and unjust.”

“The Nigeria Police Force has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movement. I have been released from unjust, illegal and unwarranted detention.
“However, it is nothing to celebrate, but thank you for not giving up!” he posted.
The activist’s release followed a wave of protests staged by his supporters across at least five states earlier on Friday.
