Bandits attack Union Bank staff on Gusau–Funtua highway, kill 1

A deadly ambush by armed bandits along the Gusau–Funtua highway in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Monday, August 4, 2025, has left one Union Bank staff member dead and another kidnapped.
The attack occurred around 2:40 p.m. in Kucheri village, when the assailants opened fire on a GAC SUV with registration number BDG 251 HZ, which was conveying bank personnel. The tragic incident has further highlighted the growing insecurity in the region, particularly along major transport routes.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the victims were employees of Union Bank Plc attached to the Yakubu Gowon Way branch in Kaduna State. They were identified as Zakari Leo, the regional manager, and Muhammad Sani Suleman.
A team of security forces were swiftly mobilized to the scene. The surrounding bushes were combed, and Mr Leo was found alive, while Mr Suleman, who sustained gunshot injuries, was rushed to the General Hospital in Tsafe.

He was later referred to the Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau but d!ed before reaching the facility.
Sources said that the deceased’s body had been released to the management of Union Bank Plc, Gusau branch, for burial.
