D’Tigress clinch historic fifth consecutive AfroBasket title

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, once again proved their dominance on the African stage by clinching their fifth consecutive FIBA AfroBasket Women’s Championship title with a thrilling 78-64 victory over Mali in the final on Sunday.
The match, played before a roaring crowd, kicked off with Mali launching an aggressive campaign to dethrone the reigning champions. The Malian team stunned spectators by taking the first quarter 26-21, applying intense pressure and capitalizing on early Nigerian errors.
But D’Tigress, true to their championship DNA, regrouped and hit back with authority. In the second quarter, they evened the scoreboard with a 20-15 turnaround, regaining confidence and composure. The momentum swung firmly in Nigeria’s favour in the third quarter, as they posted another 20-15 win, propelled by precise shooting and a tightened defense.

By the final quarter, D’Tigress had completely found their rhythm. Their experience and teamwork shone through as they closed out the game with a dominant 17-8 performance, sealing the 14-point victory.
