Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced the removal of two commissioners from his cabinet in a major shake-up of the state executive council.

The decision, aimed at repositioning the administration for greater efficiency, also came with swift replacements.

In a statement released on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, the affected commissioners were thanked for their service to the state, and Governor Zulum extended his best wishes to them in their future endeavors.

The statement further confirmed the appointment of a new head for the Borno State Secondary Education Board, signaling the governor’s continued focus on strengthening the education sector.

The affected commissioners are those for Environment, Engr. Emat Kois, and Intergovernmental and Special Duties, Tukur Ibrahim. They will be succeeded by Engr. Mohammed Habib and Ibrahim Hala Hassan.

In a separate move, Professor Yusuf Gana Balami has been appointed Executive Chairman of the Borno State Secondary Education Board.
Balami, a professor of Educational Psychology from Hawul in southern Borno, has decades of experience in both academia and administration.

His career spans service at the Borno State Ministry of Education between 1984 and 1988, followed by academic advancement at the University of Maiduguri, where he rose to the rank of professor in 2014. He is also a member of multiple professional bodies and has contributed extensively to academic publications.

Governor Zulum congratulated the new education board chairman, urging him to “deploy his years of experience in the education sector, both as an administrator and an academic, in reshaping the quality of secondary education in Borno.”

All appointments have been forwarded to the Borno State House of Assembly for confirmation.
