Background

Chief Ayiri Emami hails from Warri North Local Government Area in Delta State.

He was born to the family of the late Chief Akonu Emami and Mrs. Felicia Emami (née Ogunfeyimi) on April 26, 1975.

His early education took place at Ikengbuwa Primary School and Yonwuren College, both in Warri.

He later attended Delta State University, where he earned a degree in Political Science.

Career

Emami has been politically active since his youth.

He was one of the founding members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Warri and served as chairman of the party in Warri South-West Local Government Area.

In April 2015, he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he quickly rose to become one of the party’s influential leaders in Delta State.

He has held several key appointments, including serving on the board of Nigeria Cat Construction Company.

He was also appointed Chairman of the Delta State Waterways Security Committee, a body tasked with addressing issues such as kidnapping and armed robbery across the Niger Delta region.

Controversies

Chief Emami was first honoured with the chieftaincy title Akulagba of Warri Kingdom by the then Olu of Warri, Olu Atuwatse II.

His successor, Ogiame Ikenwoli, further elevated him by conferring the prestigious title of Ologbotsere, a position equivalent to the prime minister of the Warri Kingdom.

However, on March 30, 2021, the Ginuwa I Ruling House controversially suspended him from this role.

The dispute deepened when the current Olu, Ogiame Atuwatse III—whose legitimacy as the 21st Olu is still being challenged in court—announced on October 5, 2021, that Chief Emami was no longer the Ologbotsere.

In response, Prince Yemi Emiko, a key figure in the ascension of Atuwatse III, publicly stated that the suspension was a mistake.

Philanthropy

Chief Emami is known for his philanthropic gestures, particularly within his community.

He has provided scholarships for students and financial support for small-scale entrepreneurs, demonstrating a commitment to grassroots development and youth empowerment.

In 2009, Chief Ayiri Emami married Asba Jite Emami. The couple is blessed with three children.
