Tension as classrooms collapse during SSCE exams in Taraba

A wave of panic swept through Government Secondary School, Namne, in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State on Wednesday, after several classrooms collapsed during an ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The terrifying incident occurred during a torrential downpour accompanied by a violent windstorm, which brought parts of the school structure crashing down. At the time, hundreds of students and exam invigilators were inside, caught in the chaos and trapped beneath the debris for hours.
Thanks to the swift intervention of local residents who rushed to the scene, all those trapped were rescued. Miraculously, no lives were lost in the incident a relief amid what could have been a tragic disaster.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy struck during the second exam session of the day. A local resident, Alhaji DanAzumi Lauris, told Daily Trust that the first set of students had completed their papers and left the school premises shortly before the disaster occurred.
He said the incident occurred at about 6pm Wednesday.
DanAzumi, stated that injured students, teachers were moved to Primary Healthcare Centre located few meters away from the school where they are now receiving treatment.
He said apart from the school, the storm destroyed many houses in the community.

In Jalingo town many students went back home after 1am as a result of heavy rainfall which started when they were writing their exams and rainfall lasted hours which many of them from going back home till after 1am.
