Bola Oyebamiji is a seasoned Nigerian banker and politician currently serving as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

Before taking on the leadership of NIWA, Oyebamiji was the Commissioner for Finance in Osun State during the tenures of former Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola.

He also headed Omoluabi Holdings Limited (previously known as OSICOL) as Managing Director/CEO.

In 2023, he served as Special Adviser to Gboyega Oyetola, who was appointed the inaugural Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, prior to being named the CEO of NIWA under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Background

Bola Oyebamiji was born on November 17, 1965, in Ikire, Osun State, where he spent his formative years.

He began his education at A.D.C. Primary School, Oke-Ada, Ikire (1971–1977), before attending Ayedaade Grammar School, Ikire (1978–1982).

He furthered his studies at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, earning a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Banking and Finance (1985–1988).

Dedicated to continuous learning, Oyebamiji holds two master’s degrees: a Master of Public Administration from Lagos State University and an MBA from the University of Ado-Ekiti.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (since 2009), and a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria and the Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals.

Professional and banking career

Oyebamiji’s banking career started in 1989 at Wema Bank Plc as an Assistant Manager.

In 1998, he moved to Trans International Bank, rising to Principal Manager and Head of Lagos Region.

Later roles include Head of Business Development at Spring Bank Plc (2005–2009) and Head of Retail Business at Enterprise Bank (2009).

In 2012, he transitioned into public service as Managing Director/CEO of Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL), where under his leadership, company assets grew substantially.

His successful tenure earned him the appointment of Commissioner for Finance in Osun State in 2017.

Before this, he held directorships in several institutions, including Omoluabi Mortgage Bank (2017), Brent Mortgage Bank (2017), Ikire Microfinance Bank (2008), Imperia Bureau De Change (2006), and Roger Blue Petroleum, Lagos.

Since 1997, Oyebamiji has also been Chairman of White Green Farm in Onireke Village, his hometown.

Private life

Bola Oyebamiji is married to Sekinah Bola-Oyebamiji, and they have children together.

A lifelong learner, Oyebamiji regularly participates in peer review workshops, seminars, and specialized courses, both locally and internationally, to enhance his expertise.

Recognitions

Throughout his academic and professional journey, Oyebamiji has received numerous awards.

While at The Polytechnic Ibadan, he was honored as the Best Student in Banking Law.

At Lagos State University, he won the Dr. CS Ola Award for Best Student in Management during his Master of Public Administration program.

 

In November 1992, he received the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria’s Gold Medalist Award in Practice of Banking II.

He was named Trans International Bank’s Most Profitable Manager of the Year in 2002 and earned the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Star Performer Award in Credit Documentary and Collection in 1991.
