In a disturbing incident that has shaken the quiet of Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Simon Agbo, was abducted by gunmen on Sunday evening.

The kidnapping took place around 7:15 p.m. near the NKST Church in the Kuan area, behind the bustling Modern Market. Eyewitnesses reported that the armed men stormed Agbo’s residence, firing shots into the air to create chaos and scare away neighbors before dragging him away to an unknown location.

A family member, speaking to journalists the following day, confirmed the attack and expressed deep concern over Agbo’s safety.

It was gathered that Agbo was recently posted to the Benue State Command from Kwara State, following a redeployment in February.

Following the abduction, local youths and vigilante groups launched an immediate overnight search, though the effort did not yield results.

A younger brother of the victim, who identified himself simply as Agbo, revealed that a neighbour had been detained in connection with the incident.

He recounted, “The neighbour was consistently calling on the victim to come home or he should direct him to his location, as at that time, they needed to see him that fateful Sunday night, by all means.

“After persistent calls, that my brother should come home or, if possible, describe his whereabouts, my brother came home and went straight to his neighbour’s compound.
