Man dies in Police custody after arrest over stolen truck rims in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has launched an investigation following the sudden death of a suspect, Abubakar Auwal, while in police custody.
Auwal was arrested in connection with a case of stolen trailer truck rims, reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jega. According to the police, he collapsed while in detention and was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Jega for medical attention. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead the same day.
Given the suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Bello Sani, has ordered that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation.
During which three Officers were found culpable and are currently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Depatment for further investigation and disciplinary action.

He added that, Nigeria Police Force reassures the general public of it’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in discharging it’s duties.
“The wrong actions of few Officers do not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force, prompt and disciplinary measures are always taken against the erring Officers to ensure accountability and justice”.
CP Bello added, Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to maintaining discipline, protecting the integrity of it’s operations and fostering the trust and confidence of the people it serves.
