Jim Ovia, a native of Obi Olihe of Agbor-Obi in Delta State, Nigeria was born on November 4, 1951.
Following the death of his father when he was just four, his older siblings supported the family.
One of his elder brothers sponsored his early education, and Jim later moved to Lagos to live with him while working as a bank clerk.
Academic journey
Driven by his passion for self-improvement, Ovia pursued higher education in the United States.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1977, followed by an MBA from the University of Louisiana, Monroe, in 1979.
Additionally, he attended Harvard Business School, where he gained advanced business knowledge.
Banking career
Jim Ovia founded Zenith Bank Plc in 1990, guiding it to become a leading financial institution in Nigeria.
In 2010, he took on the role of chairman, further consolidating the bank’s status as one of Nigeria’s tier-1 banks.
