The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has officially appointed Kabir Akanbi as the Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, effective from February 13.

This announcement was made in a statement issued by Dr. Festus Akande, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Supreme Court, on Sunday in Abuja.

Akanbi’s appointment follows the retirement of Hajo Bello, who retired after reaching the mandatory public service retirement age of 60.

Before assuming this new role, Akanbi served as the Deputy Chief Registrar overseeing the Election Petition Tribunal Unit at the Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja.

A graduate of the University of Ibadan, he earned his Law Degree in 2001 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003. He later pursued a Master of Laws (LL.M) at Temple University in Philadelphia, USA, in 2005.

Akanbi is also a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Institute of Information Management, Africa.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, extended her congratulations to Akanbi, encouraging him to leverage his extensive expertise in legal practice, corporate advisory, and public service leadership—especially in software development and legal technology—to enhance the Supreme Court’s efficiency and transparency.
