Meet Chika Anyanwu, the Nigerian-American Catholic Evangelist touching lives globally

Chika Anyanwu is a Nigerian-American Catholic evangelist, international speaker, and author whose life and ministry have touched thousands of people across the globe.
Known for her engaging storytelling and authentic approach to faith, Chika has dedicated her life to helping young people and adults encounter Jesus in a personal and life-changing way.
She is the author of ‘My Encounter: How I Met Jesus in Prayer’, a deeply personal reflection on her own spiritual journey, which has inspired many to deepen their prayer lives.
In addition to her writing, Chika has contributed to well-regarded Catholic resources such as Blessed Is She, Connected: Catholic Social Teaching for This Generation, and Venture: The Bible Timeline, both published by Ascension Press.
Background
Raised in a large and vibrant Nigerian family, Chika grew up surrounded by strong cultural and spiritual values that shaped her love for God and community.
While her roots are firmly Nigerian, she was born and raised in the United States, balancing both cultural identities in her faith journey.
Chika pursued her undergraduate studies at California State University, San Bernardino, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English.
Her initial career goal was to become a high school English and ESL teacher. But along the way, her passion for evangelism grew so deeply that she decided to dedicate her life to full-time ministry.
Ministry journey
Chika began her formal ministry work as a parish Confirmation Coordinator and Young Adult Minister in Southern California, roles she faithfully served for eight years.
Her time there involved walking closely with teenagers and young adults, guiding them through some of the most transformative stages of their lives and helping them build lasting relationships with Christ and the Church.

Her ministry took a more national shape when she joined NET Ministries (National Evangelization Teams, USA), where she became a two-time alumna.
This experience exposed her to different communities across the United States, strengthening her ability to reach diverse groups with the gospel message.
In 2016, she embraced full-time evangelization, a leap of faith that opened doors for her to minister across the world.

Evangelization and global outreach
Since then, Chika has become a sought-after Catholic speaker, addressing audiences at major conferences, retreats, and youth gatherings.
Her dynamic presence has graced stages at the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC), Steubenville Youth Conferences, FOCUS SEEK, the GIVEN Catholic Women’s Conference, and the Catholic Feminist France Pilgrimage.
Her talks often combine personal testimony, scripture, and candid reflections on the challenges of living out one’s faith in modern times.
Her collaboration with Catholic organizations such as Ascension Press and ‘Blessed Is She’ has further amplified her voice, allowing her to reach Catholics worldwide through books, media, and online communities.

She currently also serves as an Area Contact for Life Teen, supporting youth ministers and parish communities in nurturing the faith of young Catholics.
Personal life
What sets Chika apart is her authenticity. She doesn’t shy away from the hard truths of faith, openly addressing struggles, doubts, and the realities of everyday Christian living.
She often says that holiness is both a calling and a process, reminding others that striving for sainthood doesn’t mean being perfect it means being faithful.

Her sense of humor also makes her relatable. She often jokes that bad drivers test her patience and sanctity, a lighthearted reminder that even the most devoted believers are human.
Outside her evangelization work, Chika cherishes the simple joys of life.
She enjoys her coffee black, loves spending time with her big Nigerian family, and embraces the ordinary experiences that keep her grounded.
While she has traveled the world proclaiming the gospel, her heart remains rooted in the values of family, faith, and community.
