Olorogun Oscar Eyovbirere Ibru, a Nigerian billionaire business mogul and Chairman of the Ibru Organization has passed away at the age of 67.

According to a statement from his family, the respected industrialist died after a brief illness. His death is a huge loss not only to the Ibru dynasty but also to Nigeria’s business and cultural circles.

1. Early Life

Born in 1958 into the influential Ibru family, Oskar’s birth signaled the beginning of a journey that would place him among Nigeria’s leading business figures.

2. Eldest Son of Michael Ibru

He was the first son of the late Michael Ibru, the legendary founder of the Ibru Organisation, one of Nigeria’s biggest family-owned conglomerates.

3. Education

Oskar began his education at Igbobi College, Lagos.

He later moved to the United States, earning a degree at Skidmore College in New York and a Master’s degree from Atlanta University’s Graduate School of Business.

4. Career beginnings

After his studies, he returned to Nigeria in 1983. He started out as a management trainee at ‘The Guardian’ newspaper before moving to Emsee Shipping Lines Limited as Research and Development Manager.

5. Rise in business

Through hard work, he climbed the ranks at Emsee Shipping, eventually becoming General Manager and then Managing Director in 1992.

He later assumed top roles across subsidiaries of the Ibru Organisation, with influence in shipping, oil and gas, real estate, fishing, and port operations.

6. Philanthropy

Passionate about giving back, Oskar founded the Dream Child Foundation, an NGO dedicated to empowering African children through music and culture.

The foundation partnered with institutions such as the World Bank and KPMG.

He was a strong voice in Nigeria’s maritime industry. As President of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping’s Governing Council, he played a major role in promoting shipping and maritime growth in the country.

He was married to Chief Wanda Ibru, curator of the Ijebu National Museum and owner of Pathways Botanical Gardens.

Their union was blessed with three children, Makashe, Chris, and Nenesi. He was also a family-oriented man who valued culture and service to the community.
