Security forces repel armed attack on Abuja–Kaduna expressway

Security operatives have successfully foiled an armed attack along the ever-busy Abuja–Kaduna Expressway, near Gauraka village in Niger State.
According to security analyst Zagozola Makama, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on September 7, when suspected robbers blocked the highway in an attempt to dispossess travellers of their belongings.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers, who were driving an unregistered ash-coloured Volkswagen Golf, opened fire sporadically after spotting advancing security personnel. The suspects then abandoned their operation and fled towards the Madalla–Abuja axis.
“The robbers had earlier punctured the right front tyre of a J5 vehicle with registration number RSH 216 XA, loaded with unripe bananas from Ekiti State en route Na’ibawa Fruits Market in Kano State,” the report stated.

Sources confirmed that three empty shells and two live rounds of AK-47 ammunition were recovered at the scene.
No casualties were recorded, and the road was quickly reopened to ensure the free flow of traffic.
According to the sources, high-visibility patrols have since been intensified along the highway and will be maintained to forestall future attacks.
