UN experts claim Israel committed genocidal acts, sexual violence in Gaza

A panel of United Nations experts has accused Israel of committing genocidal acts and sexual violence against Palestinians in Gaza, intensifying international scrutiny over the ongoing conflict.
The allegations, detailed in a statement released on Wednesday, assert that Israeli forces have engaged in systematic attacks that may constitute violations of international law.
According to the UN’s independent human rights experts, there is mounting evidence that Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in large-scale civilian casualties, destruction of infrastructure, and the deliberate targeting of essential services. The experts contend that these actions could amount to crimes of genocide under the 1948 Genocide Convention.
The panel also raised serious concerns over reports of sexual violence, stating that multiple testimonies and investigations suggest women and children have been subjected to assaults by Israeli forces.
“We have received credible reports indicating patterns of sexual violence, which are consistent with wider atrocities being committed in Gaza,” the statement read.
Israel has strongly denied the accusations, calling them baseless and politically motivated. The Israeli government insists its military operations are aimed at dismantling Hamas and other militant groups responsible for launching attacks against Israeli civilians.

“Israel operates in accordance with international law and takes extensive measures to minimize civilian harm,” an Israeli spokesperson said in response to the UN report.
The UN’s findings have reignited calls for independent investigations and possible legal action at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Several human rights organizations and international legal experts have urged the global community to take decisive steps to address the claims.
The ongoing war in Gaza has drawn widespread condemnation and has resulted in significant humanitarian concerns, with the UN warning of famine-like conditions and a deepening crisis. Amid escalating tensions, diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire have faced repeated setbacks.
The UN experts’ statement is expected to add pressure on the international community to reassess its stance on Israel’s military operations and could influence future decisions on sanctions or legal actions. Meanwhile, Palestinian representatives have welcomed the findings, calling for urgent measures to hold Israel accountable for alleged war crimes.
As the conflict continues, the global debate over Israel’s conduct in Gaza is likely to intensify, with further investigations and legal proceedings anticipated in the coming months.
