There was tension in the Iju area of Lagos State on Thursday, August 21, 2025, after a suspected thief narrowly escaped being lynched by angry residents.

According to Lagos Police Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect was caught in the act of stealing barbed wire from a perimeter fence. In a bid to resist arrest, he allegedly attacked and injured a resident with a pair of scissors.

“At about 8:40 p.m. on August 21, 2025, Umar Biliaminu was caught while carting away barbed wire on a perimeter fence in Iju area of Lagos State. He injured one of the people trying to apprehend him with a scissors. This prompted mob action on him.

“Patrol officers from Iju Police Division raced to the scene and rescued him. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those behind this barbaric act of jungle justice.

“Say NO to jungle justice!” Hundeyin said in a post on X on Saturday.
