BASIEC Chairman Ahmed Hardawa passes away

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, has passed away.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed. According to the statement, Hardawa died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja following a brief illness.
The statement described the late BASIEC chairman as a “distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian,” who left a legacy of integrity and fairness throughout his career, including during his time as a former Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa States.

Governor Bala Mohammed described Hardawa as a man of “wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership,” whose commitment to credible electoral processes helped strengthen democratic governance at the grassroots.
The statement disclosed that the funeral prayer (Janazah) will be held today, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi by 5:00 p.m.
